| Irelands National Aquarium is the countries largest display of sea and fresh water life. See young and freshly hatched fish in the Auquaculture rearing centre, learn about the huge variety of life in the Estuary, Harbour, Lighthouse, Mill Pond and many other exhibitions. The star of the show is the 120 tonne Ocean Tank showcasing over 200 species including cod, pollack and small sharks! For hands on learning visit the Touch Pools for a unique chance to hold starfish, crabs or even sea scorpions! | Charting Galways development from Medieval through to modern times, the museum offers fasinating insights to the lives of the people of Galway. Current exhibitions include: Galway Hooker - traditional sailing boat of Galway bay with distinctive short, tarred black hulls and brown sails used for both fishing and transporting goods. Sword & Mace - historic symbols of the Mayors of Galway had disappeared for hundreds of years following Cromwells invasion in 1652 only to resurface again in the mid-20th century. The Claddagh - learn about the lives of this traditional Irish speaking community who retained their own king right up till the early 20th century. |
